Cacti Care Guide
Light
- Cacti thrive in strong, bright light. A south or east-facing window is ideal.
- If using artificial light, provide at least 14-16 hours of light per day.
Water
- Water sparingly. Wait until the soil is completely dry before watering again.
- In growing months (spring and summer), water once every 2-4 weeks. During dormant months (Autumn and winter), water less frequently, about once every 1-2 months.
- Over-watering can lead to root rot, a common cacti killer.
Soil
- Use a well-draining cactus mix. Consider adding perlite or sand to improve drainage.
- Repot every 2-4 years or when the cactus outgrows its container.
Temperature
- Cacti prefer temperatures between 21°C-37°C during the day and 10°C-21°C at night.
Fertiliser
- During the growing season, feed with a half-strength cactus fertilizer every 4-6 weeks.
- Avoid fertilizing in the dormant months.
Pruning
- While cacti require minimal pruning, remove any dead or diseased sections to keep the plant healthy.
Pests
- Cacti can be prone to pests like mealybugs & spider mites. Check regularly and treat promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Tips
- Always handle cacti with care. Use tongs or gloves to avoid spines.
- Rotate your cactus every few weeks to ensure even growth.
- Always allow the water to drain out of the pot to prevent root rot.
