Calathea medallion is a tropical plant that is prized for its ornamental foliage.

The plant has large, round leaves that are dark green with a pattern of lighter green stripes. The undersides of the leaves are a deep maroon color, which adds to the plant's visual appeal. The leaves are oval in shape and can grow up to 10 inches in length.

Overall, Calathea medallion is a stunning plant that can add a tropical touch to any indoor space.

Where do I come from?

Calathea plants in general are native to the tropical regions of Central and South America.

Light

Calathea medallion prefers bright, indirect light, but can also tolerate lower light levels. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves and cause them to become damaged, so it is important to avoid placing the plant in a location with direct sunlight.

You can place it near a bright window that receives indirect sunlight, such as a north or east-facing window. If the plant is not receiving enough light, you may notice that the leaves begin to fade or lose their vibrant color.

Water

Calathea medallion prefers consistently moist soil, but not waterlogged soil. It is important to keep the soil evenly moist, but allow the top inch of soil to dry out slightly before watering again. Overwatering can cause root rot, while underwatering can cause the plant to wilt and become stressed.

When watering, it is important to use filtered or distilled water, as the plant is sensitive to chemicals and minerals found in tap water. Watering with tap water may cause the tips of the leaves to turn brown or develop brown spots.

Humidity

Calathea medallion prefers high humidity levels, as it is native to tropical regions with high humidity. In order to keep the plant healthy and thriving, it is important to provide it with a humid environment.

You can increase humidity levels by misting the leaves of the plant regularly with water, or by placing the plant on a pebble tray filled with water. Another option is to use a humidifier to maintain high humidity levels around the plant.

It is important to avoid exposing Calathea medallion to dry air, as this can cause the plant's leaves to become dry and brown around the edges. In addition, the plant is sensitive to cold drafts, so it should be kept in a warm, draft-free location.
