Calathea Zebrina, also known as the Zebra Plant, is a striking tropical plant cherished for its vibrant foliage and unique zebra-like patterns. Native to the rainforests of Brazil, This plant is prized for its ornamental value and is a popular choice due to its stunning foliage.

Light

Calathea Zebrina thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. Place the plant near a window where it can receive filtered sunlight or in a location with bright, indirect light. Insufficient light may cause the foliage to lose its vibrant coloration.

Watering

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch, ensuring that excess water can drain freely from the pot. Calathea Zebrina is sensitive to both overwatering and underwatering, so it's essential to maintain balanced soil moisture.

Humidity

Calathea Zebrina thrives in high humidity environments. Increase humidity levels by misting the leaves regularly, placing a humidity tray filled with water beneath the plant, or using a humidifier. Maintain humidity levels above 50% if possible to prevent leaf browning and curling.

Temperature

Keep Calathea Zebrina in a warm environment with temperatures between 18°C to 27°C. Avoid exposing it to cold drafts or sudden temperature fluctuations, as they can stress the plant and lead to leaf damage.

Fertilisation

Feed Calathea Zebrina with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half-strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilising during the dormant winter months. Overfertilisation can lead to salt buildup in the soil, which can harm the plant.

Pruning and Grooming

Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves regularly to maintain the plant's appearance and health. Groom the foliage by wiping the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and enhance their natural shine.

Pests and Diseases

Keep an eye out for common pests such as spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs, which can occasionally bother Calathea Zebrina. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal diseases.
