The Coral Cactus is a very unique plant and you can see where they get their name from. It wouldn’t look weird being at the bottom of the sea! They are certainly a statement plant so if you are looking for something abit different this is the plant for you! They are also not actually a Cactus but a succulent and they come from the Euphorbia family.
An interesting fact about this plant is that it is actually two plants in one. Both plants are Euphorbias, but the base and the top come from two different plants. They’ve been grafted together by hand, and live happily like that.
Where do I come from?
The coral cactus, with its funky and unique appearance, is actually not a naturally occurring plant in the wild. It's a result of human intervention, specifically a process called grafting. Through grafting, skilled horticulturists carefully unite the two plants, allowing the crested succulent to grow on top of the cactus. This combination results in coral cactus that we see today.
The coral cactus is a combination of two different plants: a cactus from the Euphorbia genus (often Euphorbia lactea) and a colorful, coral-like succulent called Euphorbia 'Cristata' or Euphorbia lactea 'Cristata'. The cactus serves as the rootstock or base, while the crested succulent is grafted onto it.
Light
The Coral Cactus will thrive in bright, indirect sunlight for most of the day and some full direct sunlight either in the morning or evening. Don’t provide too much direct sun as it can cause it to have some discolouration.
Rotate the plant often as if the sun only touches one side it could grow lopsided.
Watering
The Coral Cactus is a succulent but due to is grafted nature they can’t be left to fully dry out but also doesn’t like moist soil as the roots can rot easily. Water this one when the top 2-4 inches have dried out.
Humidity
No extra humidity needed.
Am I pet Friendly?
