The Ficus Benjamina ‘Variegata’ is also known as the Weeping Fig and is a cultivar of the standard Ficus benjamina, distinguished by its striking variegated foliage. The leaves are typically green with splashes or margins of creamy white, yellow, or light green, giving it a unique, decorative appearance compared to the solid green variety.
Light
They prefer bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight in the morning or late afternoon, but it is best to avoid direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day as it can scorch the leaves. If the plant is not getting enough light, its variegation may become less pronounced, and it may grow more slowly. On the other hand, if it is getting too much light, the leaves may become pale and show signs of sunburn.
Water
When it comes to watering, it is important to strike a balance between keeping the soil evenly moist and avoiding overwatering, which can lead to root rot.
Check the soil: Before watering, check the top inch of soil with your finger. If it feels dry to the touch, it's time to water. If it's still moist, wait a few more days before checking again.
Water thoroughly: When you water, make sure to thoroughly saturate the soil until water drains out of the bottom of the pot.
Don't let the plant sit in water: After watering, make sure to empty any excess water from the saucer or tray underneath the pot to prevent the roots from sitting in standing water, which can cause root rot.
Not Pet Friendly
They are not considered to be pet-friendly, as it can be toxic to cats, dogs, and other pets if ingested. The plant contains a sap that can cause stomach upset, vomiting, and diarrhea if consumed, and the leaves and stems can also cause skin irritation in some pets. If you have pets in your home, it's best to keep it out of reach or choose a non-toxic alternative plant.
