Monstera Adansonii, also known as the Swiss Cheese Vine or Monkey Mask, is a vining plant native to Central and South America. It belongs to the Araceae family and is closely related to the Monstera deliciosa, known for its iconic split leaves. Monstera Adansonii is characterized by its heart-shaped leaves that feature unique oval or teardrop-shaped holes, giving it a distinctive and eye-catching appearance. As a vining plant, it can grow long and lush if provided with the right conditions, making it a popular choice for hanging baskets or trained to climb a support structure.

Light

Monstera adansonii thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light conditions but may exhibit slower growth and smaller leaves. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. Place the plant near a window where it can receive filtered sunlight or in a location with bright, indirect light.

Watering

Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings, then water the plant thoroughly until water drains from the bottom of the pot. Monstera adansonii prefers slightly moist soil but is sensitive to overwatering, which can lead to root rot. Ensure that excess water can drain freely from the pot to prevent waterlogging.

Humidity

Monstera adansonii thrives in moderate to high humidity environments. Increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly, placing a humidity tray filled with water beneath the plant, or using a humidifier. This will help prevent leaf browning and keep the foliage looking lush and healthy.

Temperature

Keep Monstera adansonii in a warm environment with temperatures between 18°C to 27°C. It can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures but is sensitive to cold drafts. Avoid placing it near doors, windows, or air conditioning vents that can expose it to drafts.

Fertilisation

Feed Monstera adansonii with a balanced liquid fertiliser diluted to half-strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilisation frequency during the dormant winter months. Overfertilisation can lead to salt buildup in the soil, which can harm the plant.

Pruning

Trim leggy stems and remove any yellowing or damaged leaves regularly to promote bushier growth and maintain the plant's appearance. Pruning also helps to prevent the plant from becoming too unruly.
