Where do I come from?

I am from the tropical regions of the Americas.

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight can scorch its delicate fronds, while too little light may cause it to become sparse and leggy. A north or east-facing window that receives filtered light is ideal.

Watering

Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Water the plant thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Boston Ferns are sensitive to chlorine and fluoride in tap water, which can cause browning of the tips, so using rainwater or distilled water is preferable.

Humidity

High humidity is crucial for the Boston Fern to thrive. It enjoys environments with humidity levels above 50%. You can increase humidity by misting the fern daily, placing it on a pebble tray filled with water, or using a humidifier, especially in dry or heated rooms.

Temperature

Prefers temperatures between 15°C - 24°C. Avoid placing it near drafts, heating vents, or air conditioning units, as sudden temperature changes can stress the plant.

Soil

A well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter is ideal. You can use a mix designed for ferns or create your own by blending peat moss, loam, and sand or perlite for improved drainage.

Fertilizing

Feed with a liquid fertilizer diluted to half the recommended strength once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Do not fertilize in fall and winter when growth slows down.

Pruning

Trim away any brown or dead fronds to encourage healthy growth and maintain the plant's appearance. This also helps prevent pests and diseases.

Repotting

Repot every 2-3 years or when the fern outgrows its pot. Choose a slightly larger pot to give the roots more room to grow. Spring is the best time for repotting.

Pests and Diseases

Boston Ferns are relatively resistant to pests and diseases, but keep an eye out for common houseplant pests such as spider mites and scale. Treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Am I pet friendly?

For any pet parents out there - this houseplant is non-toxic.

What size am I?

I come in a 12cm pot.
