Philodendron Scandens, also known as the Heartleaf Philodendron, is a popular and easy-to-care-for houseplant. It features heart-shaped, glossy green leaves and a trailing or climbing growth habit, making it ideal for hanging baskets, shelves, or as a vining plant on a support. Its resilient nature and attractive foliage make it a favourite among plant enthusiasts.

Light

Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Water

Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Reduce watering in the winter when the plant's growth slows down.

Humidity

Thrives in moderate to high humidity levels (40-60%). Can adapt to average indoor humidity but benefits from occasional misting.

Temperature

Ideal temperature range: 18-27°C. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 13°C.

Fertilisation

Feed with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in fall and winter.

Repotting

Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot that is one size larger and has drainage holes.

Pruning

Prune to control size and shape or to encourage bushier growth. Remove any yellow or dead leaves to maintain plant health.

Pests

Watch for common pests like spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs. Treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil if needed.

Propagation

Easily propagated through stem cuttings. Take a cutting with at least one node and a few leaves, then root it in water or moist soil.
