Schefflera Gold Capella, commonly known as the Umbrella Plant, is a popular houseplant distinguished by its glossy, palmate leaves, which radiate from a central stem like the spokes of an umbrella. This variety features vibrant green leaves with striking golden-yellow variegation, adding a splash of colour to indoor spaces. It's an attractive, low-maintenance plant that can grow into a small tree with proper care, making it a great choice for both homes and offices.

Light

Schefflera arboricola thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light conditions but may exhibit slower growth and less vigorous foliage. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. Place the plant near a window where it can receive filtered sunlight or in a location with bright, indirect light.

Watering

Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings, then water the plant thoroughly until water drains from the bottom of the pot. Schefflera arboricola prefers slightly moist soil but is sensitive to overwatering, which can lead to root rot. Ensure that excess water can drain freely from the pot to prevent waterlogging.

Humidity

Schefflera arboricola tolerates a wide range of humidity levels but prefers moderate to high humidity. Increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly, placing a humidity tray filled with water beneath the plant, or using a humidifier. This will help prevent leaf browning and keep the foliage looking lush and healthy.

Temperature

Keep Schefflera arboricola in a warm environment with temperatures between 60°F to 80°F (15°C to 27°C). It can tolerate slightly cooler temperatures but is sensitive to cold drafts. Avoid placing it near doors, windows, or air conditioning vents that can expose it to drafts.

Fertilisation

Feed Schefflera arboricola with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half-strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilisation frequency during the dormant winter months. Over fertilisation can lead to salt build-up in the soil, which can harm the plant.

Pruning

Trim leggy stems and remove any yellowing or damaged leaves regularly to promote bushier growth and maintain the plant's appearance. Pruning also helps to prevent the plant from becoming too unruly.

Propagation

Schefflera arboricola can be propagated from stem cuttings. Take a cutting with at least two leaf nodes and place it in water or moist potting soil until roots develop. Once roots have formed, transplant the cutting into its own pot with well-draining soil.
